Why I support TEXAS YES Project

Developing a love of reading in childhood is often the start of a successful educational journey. Exposure to books opens young minds to facts, ideas and stories that blossom into interests and ultimately knowledge, which positively impacts us all.
I’ve seen this love of books and reading with my three children. Books opened their minds to discovery and learning.
As a Board Member of TEXAS YES Project, I am proud of the impact our team creates within communities – from free school supplies for Title 1 students to STEM and STEAM grants. But, the one initiative I am most excited about is the Little Locker Project.
Little Lockers give underserved communities a free resource for books and learning. This hub of free books and art supplies propels the joy of learning in young and old.
I was prompted to personally underwrite a Little Locker by my daughter, London. We happened to be in Gainesville, Texas over the summer and saw a Little Library underwritten by a local resident on the town square. She said, “Wouldn’t that be neat if we had one in Pleasanton?” That sparked the idea to personally donate one to my own town, a town that has a high percentage of underserved Title 1 students.
On January 27th, my daughters joined me in dedicating a TEXAS YES Little Locker at the Pleasanton Park in Pleasanton, Texas. My hope is that our community will use this Little Locker as a source of inspiration to explore and expand our collective educational journey.
The Little Locker Project launched in March of 2020, right before the pandemic hit. The TEXAS YES team developed this project with one goal in mind: connecting communities through literacy. Each Little Locker provides books and resources to students and their families. During the summer months, we supply our lockers with outdoor activities, crafts and art projects to help encourage creativity and reduce screen time. Find a Little Locker near you by clicking here.

TEXAS YES is a DBA for SA YES, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization built on the idea that by providing our students with quality supplies and resources in the classroom we can help them achieve long term academic success. Since 1998, we’ve supplied students and teachers at Title 1 schools with school supply kits, STEAM development grants and more. Over the years, more than $4 million has been put back into our communities through school supply distribution, scholarships for high school students, grants for schools and educational nonprofits and access to books.
