Creating Reading Communities: How TEXAS YES is Building Networks of Literacy Support

In Texas classrooms, success isn’t just about test scores – it’s about having the right tools, resources, and support to learn. For 27 years, TEXAS YES Project has been driving forward educational equality for Title 1 students across San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth, Corpus Christi, and Austin. Here’s how we made a difference during the 2023-24 fiscal year.
Box of Dreams: Equipping Students for Success
Every student deserves to start the school year prepared and confident. Our Box of Dreams program has made this possible for thousands of Texas children:
- Distributed 79,000 school supply kits to Title 1 students in need
- Partnered with 147 schools across Texas
- Collaborated with 12 community organizations to expand our reach
Little Locker: Opening Doors to Literacy
Reading is the foundation of learning, and our Little Locker program continues to grow:
- Installed 13 new Little Lockers
- Reached a total of 49 Little Lockers across Texas
- Impacted 38,074 students through improved access to books
- Enhanced by our YES Reading Partners program in K-5 classrooms
YES Grants: Powering STEAM Education
Innovation in education requires investment. Through our YES Grants program:
- Awarded $99,300 in STEAM education grants
- Supported 18 schools in implementing new initiatives
- Empowered teachers to bring hands-on learning to life
Looking Ahead
These numbers represent more than statistics – they’re stories of opportunity, growth, and transformation. Every school supply kit distributed, book shared, and grant awarded, moved us closer to our goal of educational equality for Title 1 students.
