Why CommuniCare Supports TEXAS YES
The steep expenses associated with school supplies can often place a heavy financial strain on families. According to the National Retail Federation, families spend an average of $890 on their children’s school supplies each year. In an effort to address this challenge, we introduced our Box of Dreams Program more than 30 years ago. Each year, TEXAS YES identifies Title 1 elementary schools throughout the state of Texas and provides them with free school supply kits to start their school year off on the right foot!
Since 1998, our team at TEXAS YES alongside committed volunteers, board members, and sponsors, have hand-delivered more than 660,000 school supply kits to students and community organizations across Texas. Each school supply kit comprises of the following essentials: colored pencils, crayons, notebook paper, a spiral notebook, large eraser, glue stick, pocket folders, folders with pockets and brads, a ruler, pencils, black and red ballpoint pens, and a box of tissues.
TEXAS YES is committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of the families we serve. In our upcoming 2024 distribution efforts, we plan to provide 21,000 kits in San Antonio, 33,000 in Dallas-Fort Worth, 8,500 in Austin, and 10,000 in Corpus Christi.
Our volunteer program allows us the opportunity to connect with our community and make a big difference in the lives of our Texas students. As our program has grown over the years, we’ve began to offer ways that our volunteers can help us provide services to our students. Our Box of Dreams program is about to kick off, so we are actively seeking volunteers that are willing to help us distribute free school supply kits.
ABOUT TEXAS YES:
TEXAS YES is a DBA for SA YES, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization built on the idea that by providing our students with quality supplies and resources in the classroom, we can help them achieve long-term academic success. Since 1998, we’ve supplied students and teachers at Title 1 schools with school supply kits, STEAM development grants, and more. Over the years, more than $4 million has been put back into our communities through school supply distribution, scholarships for high school students, grants for schools and educational nonprofits, and greater access to literacy.
