Why CommuniCare Supports TEXAS YES
TEXAS YES Project loves building lifelong partnerships with businesses and individuals, who are passionate about working together to provide essential resources for student success. In the fall of 2022, the TEXAS YES team met Jim Garrett, owner of the new Venture X San Antonio Northwest. Through this partnership, TEXAS YES received generous support for our Little Locker Program through a Venture X San Antonio Northwest Book Drive running for the month of February 2023.
Here’s why Jim Garrett supports and values the TEXAS YES Project.
Why do you and Venture X San Antonio Northwest support the TEXAS YES Project?
TEXAS YES does a great job of providing resources and supplies to underserved schools and students. They do a fantastic job of helping ensure these students and teachers get their often-critical needs met.
Why do you want to give back to San Antonio children?
I too attended underserved public schools in San Antonio growing up. My friends and I didn’t always have all the resources or school supplies that were required. We often had to share or go without. Today we realize that EVERY child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential and providing those resources is one of those foundational keys necessary.

How did the Venture X San Antonio Northwest staff and its members participate in the book drive benefiting the Little Locker program?
Venture X Northwest had a four-prong approach:
Tell me about the book readings you and your team did for area school children? Why is it important to read and engage young students?
In concert with TEXAS YES, we visited Hutchins Elementary in the San Antonio Independent School District and read to students. Students today have an ever-increasing number of distractions and challenges. Developing an interest in books helps give them the skills they need to see and engage the world with all its wonders, learn the vital skills they need to excel, and help develop the critical thinking so often needed in our modern society.
ABOUT TEXAS YES:
TEXAS YES is a DBA for SA YES, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization built on the idea that by providing our students with quality supplies and resources in the classroom we can help them achieve long term academic success. Since 1998, we’ve supplied students and teachers at Title 1 schools with school supply kits, STEAM development grants and more. Over the years, more than $4 million has been put back into our communities through school supply distribution, scholarships for high school students, grants for schools and educational nonprofits and greater access to literacy.
